SpaceState / Background
Privacy & preferences
This project website is built as static HTML with Hugo. It has no analytics scripts or external fonts. Images, CSS and JavaScript are served with the website. The only other request goes to this project’s SpacePush server, for the number of open spaces (see below).
Your preferences
The website saves two preference cookies on your device when you make the corresponding choice:
spacestate_language: your choice of German (de) or English (en). The next visit to the main address opens your saved language. Direct links to a language version are respected.spacestate_theme: your manual choice of the light (light) or dark (dark) theme. Without a saved choice, the theme follows your system preference, including subsequent changes.
These cookies apply to this website, expire after 180 days and contain no identifier for usage statistics. They use SameSite=Lax and, on HTTPS, Secure. You can remove them in your browser settings. If your browser blocks cookies, the controls still work, but your choice will not be saved permanently.
The preview is an example
The status switch on the home page runs only in your browser. Your browser asks push.grafixmafia.net, this project’s SpacePush server, for the number of open spaces when you open the home page. No cookies are sent; the server writes no access logs and stores no IP addresses. Without JavaScript, or when the server cannot be reached, the page shows the number from its last build. The preview does not query SpaceAPI or SpacePush, save your example status or send notifications. The app screenshots are recordings, not live displays.
External links and hosting
Links lead to sites including SpaceAPI and GitHub. Those services are only opened when you follow a link. When you request this website, the hosting provider processes connection data required to deliver it. Its operational and logging settings are separate from the website’s preferences.
The website and apps are separate
The SpaceState apps and SpacePush server have their own data flows. For push notifications, SpacePush receives the device token and selected subscriptions. For usage statistics, the apps send their app and operating system version and mark the first request of each day, week and month. SpacePush only adds these marks up. No identifier is involved, and client addresses are not recorded. Daily counters are kept for about 14 months. Everything about the apps is in the app privacy policy. Technical details are in the SpaceState documentation and SpacePush documentation.
